An Interview with Dr. John V. Fesko on the Doctrine of Justification

1 Min Read

Recently, Dr. John V. Fesko, academic dean and professor of systematic and historical theology for Westminster Seminary, CA, was here in central Florida teaching a week-long intensive course on the Doctrine of Justification for Ligonier Academy's Doctor of Ministry program. During the week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Fesko in the studio to discuss this doctrine "upon which the church stands or falls." We make this interview available to you here with hopes that you will find the discussion helpful.

Questions

  • Why is the class on the doctrine of justification by faith alone such an important course for pastors? (0:20)
  • What are the more prominent attacks on this doctrine in our own generation? (1:45)
  • Are there attacks on this doctrine from within Evangelical and even Reformed churches? (6:17)
  • What is "justification"? (9:34)
  • What is the Old Testament basis for this doctrine? (12:06)
  • How has the class responded to this study? (21:51)

An entire course dedicated to the vital doctrine of justification is but a reflection of Ligonier Academy's desire to help further equip pastors to have truly gospel-centered ministries. Our Doctor of Ministry (DMin) degree program, serving the goals of ordained men in pastorates, mission fields, and other full-time ministries, emphasizes the application of theology and the means of grace to ministry. The DMin courses are taught by some of our generations finest reformed theologians and pastors, like Sinclair Ferguson, D.A. Carson, and R.C. Sproul.
