Who Is God? 39% of UK Adults Aren’t Sure

2 min read

“Who is God?”

This is the most important question we can ask, yet many people in the United Kingdom are unsure of how to answer it.

In this year’s State of Theology survey, 39% of UK adults responded “not sure” to the statement, “There is one true God in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.”

The doctrine of the Trinity is fundamental to the Christian faith, because what we believe about God shapes our entire lives.

This uncertainty extends beyond the Trinity. This year’s survey results reveal that many UK adults are also unsure about other core Christian beliefs:

  • 39% are unsure of whether Jesus is God
  • 46% are unsure if the Holy Spirit is a personal being
  • 33% are unsure if the Bible is literally true

These findings reveal a significant need for clear, faithful Bible teaching. Many people simply do not know what Scripture teaches about God and the Christian faith, and new believers need to be firmly grounded in the truth amid a society that has forgotten many of its biblical roots.
