Since the advent of modern Sunday school, church leaders have been tasked with finding volunteer teachers. Finding adequate volunteers can seem impossible, so we can be tempted to relax standards, especially for children’s teachers. These are just children, after all; we are just coloring pictures of Noah’s ark and the walls of Jericho, right? I want to suggest that there is a better way. It involves knowing what ought to motivate us to demand qualified teachers for Sunday school for everyone from the little ones of Matthew 18 to adults, and it involves encouragement from church officers and the congregation.
