To reach the world with the gospel, you need to know the ideas that have shaped it.
These ideas go back to the great philosophers. Great thinkers past and present shape the thoughts of people on the street—even if they don’t recognize it. Listen carefully and you will hear the voices of ancient Greek thinkers as well as the shapers of modern thought in your conversations with people from every walk of life. A basic knowledge of these ideas, including their strengths and weaknesses, is therefore indispensable for evangelism and apologetics.
So concerned am I about equipping believers to confront the ideas of this age that Ligonier will invest half a million dollars in ministry outreach this month exposing the strongholds of unbelief and opposition to Christ in our culture (2 Cor. 10:4–5). But we can't do this without you. As a thank you for your gift of any amount this month, we'll send you the complete DVD teaching series The Consequences of Ideas and a DVD-ROM of the series that also features the study guide. In 35 lectures I consider ancient Greek thinkers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, Christian philosophers such as Augustine, Anselm and Aquinas, the shapers of modern thought such as Hume, Kant and Nietzsche, and other important thinkers to demonstrate how their ideas have impacted world events, theology, the fine arts and culture, as well as our everyday lives.
Defending the faith in this world is critical to gospel outreach. This month, will you help Ligonier train Christians to understand and tear down the lies of the Enemy? Thank you.
