45% of Canadian Evangelicals Believe Jesus Is Not God: The State of Theology

2 min read

The State of Theology Canada offers a nationwide look at what Canadians really believe about God. And the results are sobering:

Nearly half of Canadian evangelicals agree with the statement, “Jesus was a great teacher, but he was not God.”

To believe that Jesus was anything less than God is to dismantle the Christian faith. Our salvation depends on the truth that the eternal God became man to save sinners.

It is troubling that almost half of those who affirm that “The Bible is the highest authority for what I believe” simultaneously deny that Jesus is God—a doctrine clearly and explicitly taught in Scripture.

Jesus Himself declares, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30), and throughout Scripture He is revealed as the divine Son of God—truly God and truly man in His incarnation. Confusion surrounding such a foundational biblical teaching underscores a need for the church to recover clear, faithful teaching on the person and work of Christ.
