Announcing Our Dedicated-Language Website in Marathi

Amid rising persecution in India, Jesus Christ is building His church.

To serve God’s people for discipleship, Ligonier has launched mr.Ligonier.org, our dedicated-language website in Marathi. This major regional language of India is spoken by nearly 100 million people.

mr.Ligonier.org provides an online library of trusted Christian teaching, including the following materials and many more in development:

• Translated articles from Tabletalk magazine
• Can I Be Sure I’m Saved? booklet by R.C. Sproul
• The Ligonier Statement on Christology
• Historic Christian creeds and confessions of faith

Persecution of Christians in India is intensifying, especially in regions where believers are already a small minority. In the state of Maharashtra, where Marathi is the dominant language, a recent report detailed a mob beating Christians attending Sunday morning worship services as local police watched.

For those who face the constant threat of hostility, resources are scarce; yet access to the internet is widely available for most. This provides a tremendous opportunity for us to increasingly serve Marathi-speaking Christians, who are hungry for resources that can anchor them in God’s Word and strengthen them to stand firm in the faith.

The gospel first came to this region through Protestant missionaries in the early 1800s, with the Marathi Bible translation beginning under William Carey’s oversight. Generations later, the work of the Great Commission continues.

Thanks to the generous support of ministry supporters such as you, mr.Ligonier.org is Ligonier’s twenty-second dedicated-language website. As more discipleship resources are added, we pray that this expanding library of Bible teaching will equip the church and reach Marathi-speaking people with the good news of Jesus Christ.

In addition to the Marathi website, we encourage you to share Ligonier’s Marathi social media channels on Facebook and Instagram to help reach more people worldwide. Please pray that this Bible teaching will equip Marathi-speaking Christians as they face spiritual opposition.

The launch of this dedicated-language website in Marathi plays a role in Ligonier’s aim to develop the world’s largest library of discipleship resources that are true to the historic Christian faith. By God’s grace, we are continuing our efforts to make this teaching available in the world’s twenty most-spoken languages, serving more than 80 percent of the world’s population for generations to come.
