Your Support of Gospel Work Matters

from Jun 19, 2019 Category: Ministry News

Your support of gospel work matters. Your prayers and gifts are not incidental to the growth of God’s kingdom on earth. They’re powerful means through which the Lord brings His truth to people around the world.

That’s one of the most important lessons Dr. Sproul taught me. R.C.’s high view of God’s sovereignty allowed him to see God’s ordinary ways of working through ordinary people using ordinary means to do extraordinary things. He saw how God was pleased to accomplish His purposes in and through people like you and me.

Listen to the Apostle Paul: “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth” (1 Cor. 3:6). God didn’t need Paul or Apollos in any absolute sense. But He blessed their work to grow the gospel in Corinth and throughout the known world.

That’s what our extraordinary God ordinarily does. I’ve seen it firsthand through Ligonier Ministries over the years. The Lord has multiplied our outreach through the faithful giving of friends like you. He’s used gifts of every size to bring His Word to some of the most inaccessible places on the planet. Recently, we heard from Victor in Egypt, who said:

“I am so thankful to be able to access high-level theological resources from Ligonier capable to teach people who have no access to biblical teaching or are exposed to wrong teaching. The Lord knows how much we need these vital resources because they proclaim the gospel of Christ alone.”

Your support of Ligonier, no matter how large or small, matters to people such as Victor who lack access to trustworthy teaching. Ligonier’s faithful friends and partners helped him, and your gift will enable Ligonier to reach even more people.

The regular giving of friends like you sustains and grows Ligonier’s outreach according to the sovereign plan of God. Your gift this month will multiply ministry, enabling Ligonier to help the church as it equips the saints for ministry and preaches the gospel around the world

Summer can be a tough time for ministries as support tends to decline in these months, and things are no different for Ligonier. But we can’t slow down. The need is too vast; the opportunities for gospel outreach too many to number.

Let’s consider this: If everyone reading this letter gave just $100, Ligonier’s outreach budget for the rest of 2019 would be fully funded.

Your support is needed now if we are to reach more than thirteen million people by the end of the year.

Your support is needed now if we are to continue being a theological lifeline for Christians around the world who are starving for truth.

And this merely meets current demand. Our shared vision is for our holy God to be known by millions more, and so we are aiming for growth because we serve a big God who delights to exceed our expectations. R.C. laid a strong foundation and was amazed by the growth Ligonier experienced in the last few years before he went to be with the Lord. That expansion has only continued and shows no signs of letting up. You may have joined us over the past couple of years in praying for a global awakening. As the Lord brings more people to the knowledge of Himself, we will see the need for discipleship resources dramatically increase. There will be much more work for us to do. Just imagine millions of new believers all around the world with a hunger to study God’s Word, or churchgoers finding a renewed zeal to proclaim the holiness of God in all its fullness. Imagine knowing that these people can readily access trustworthy teaching—all because the Lord blessed our joint labors.

As God’s kingdom increases, so does the need for this ministry. With your help, we can keep pace with what God is doing and reach as many people as possible. We are already seeing swells of growth. You and I must invest in sustainable and scalable outreach now so that we can maximize our efforts and meet this rising need. That’s why we are grateful for faithful friends like you who give generously and pray particularly for the outreach of Ligonier.

The Ligonier board of directors will review our giving progress next month and evaluate our plans for the rest of the year and the beginning of 2020. I cannot overstate how vital your support is at this time. Now is not the time to cut back on serving God’s people; it is the time to move forward with strength.

Your gift of any amount will go a long way. God gives the growth as we are faithful to His call. Thank you for standing with Ligonier. We are in this together.
