What Is True Wisdom?

Have you ever met someone who knows a lot of information, but doesn’t use it well? Maybe they recite facts to make others feel inferior. Or perhaps they relish the opportunity to prove you wrong in a debate.

Scripture warns about this tendency: “Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him” (Prov. 26:12). Under the curse of sin, we often twist God-given abilities, including our intelligence, toward selfish ends.

Scripture also gives us the solution: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight” (Prov. 9:10).

In today’s message from his video teaching series Dust to Glory, R.C. Sproul considers this overarching theme and explores the connection between wisdom and faith. True wisdom isn’t about abstract speculation, interesting trivia, or self-help strategies. It’s about knowing what pleases God—and living it out.

Today’s video also includes several practical strategies for interpreting the Old Testament Wisdom Books: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. Watch now.
