Stephen Meyer & R.C. Sproul Talk Intelligent Design, Philosophy & Education

3 Min Read

One of Dr. Sproul's primary goals and missions over the years is for Christians to understand who God is and be able to defend their faith by knowing what they believe and why they believe it. Several years ago, he participated with Focus on the Family as they introduced a DVD-based small group curriculum called The Truth Project. It was discovered that only nine percent of professing Christians have a biblical worldview and therefore live life very similarly to non-believers. This home study is a series of lessons that discuss in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life and focuses on topics such as philosophy, ethics, theology, science, history, and sociology. These are the topics that laypeople need to be familiar with in order to be able to defend their faith in an unbelieving world. The goal of this project was consistent with Dr. Sproul's own efforts of this type over the past several years so when he was approached to be interviewed and involved with this project, he was happy to contribute.

In late 2009, a new DVD-based apologetics curriculum was released by Focus on the Family, this time geared for students ages 15-22 after it was discovered that an increasing number of college students are losing their faith. While it is not The Truth Project for teens, TrueU is designed primarily to help students solidify their Christian faith with foundational apologetics training. It will equip young people to stand strong in the university environment, and also serve as a precursor to the in-depth study presented in The Truth Project of how to live out a Christian worldview in everyday life. These lessons focus on recent findings in the physical and biological sciences, as well as mathematical probabilities, which provide a compelling case against the common argument that belief in God is "just a blind leap of faith." They will also examine evidence from archaeology and historiography that supports the factual accuracy of the Bible.

The first installments of this curriculum are lead by Dr. Stephen Meyer. Dr. Meyer is Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute outside of Seattle, Washington. He has spend twenty years researching cosmology, biology, and metaphysics to help show evidence for the existence of a creator God. He received his Ph.D. from Cambridge University and is author of Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design. Dr. Meyer was also featured in the 2008 documentary film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, hosted by Ben Stein.
