To reach the world with the gospel, you need to know the ideas that have shaped it.

These ideas go back to the great philosophers. Great thinkers past and present shape the thoughts of people on the street—even if they don’t recognize it. Listen carefully and you will hear the voices of ancient Greek thinkers as well as the shapers of modern thought in your conversations with people from every walk of life. A basic knowledge of these ideas, including their strengths and weaknesses, is therefore indispensable for evangelism and apologetics.

So concerned am I about equipping believers to confront the ideas of this age that Ligonier will invest half a million dollars in ministry outreach this month exposing the strongholds of unbelief and opposition to Christ in our culture (2 Cor. 10:4–5).
