The truth of Scripture is meant not only to be studied — it's meant to be sung.

That's a lesson I learned early in my Christian life. Words can hardly describe the way in which the great music of the church has brought me into the presence of God to worship Him in His glory. The great hymns of God's people sung throughout the ages have helped me to see the transcendent beauty of God.

In recent years, many people have noted the impoverishment of the church's worship over the past century or so. Thanks be to God, there are signs that this tide is starting to turn, that believers are tired of music that lacks depth and lyrics that fail to convey the broad sweep of sound doctrine taught in Holy Scripture.

It's easy to point out a problem, but harder to propose a solution. So, I'm grateful for theologians, pastors, and composers who are seeking to restore depth and beauty to the church's worship and music. But Ligonier isn't sitting on the sidelines in this. I'm excited to tell you about a new project from Ligonier that joins with other voices in our day to model what we believe God-honoring music and worship should look like.

I'm talking about Glory to the Holy One, a new album of sacred music for Christ's church. You may have heard about it from us.

This album is among the highlights of my life and ministry. I worked with a friend of the ministry, Jeff Lippencott, who is an award-winning composer for film and TV in Los Angeles. He has taken several of the hymns I have written and set them to new compositions and arrangements that seek to convey the depth and beauty of the truth of God.

We've also turned to the most gifted musicians to record the album, using orchestras, choirs, and instrumentalists in Seattle, Phoenix, London, Canterbury, and Orlando. Mr. Lippencott generously donated his talents and time to this project, but the other expenses associated with it have been significant. This has been money well spent, for by God's grace, we've produced a timeless resource for the church's worship.

Along with helping to defray our production costs, support is also needed to help underwrite a series of a free concerts we are offering across the U.S. this year and next. Lord willing, we will be in Los Angeles on May 1 and near Phoenix on May 6. We plan to announce a tour for the southeast U.S. later this summer.

Augustine said, "He who sings prays twice." Thus, we must be as concerned for the music of the church as we are for its doctrine. Understanding God's holiness renews our minds and transforms everything, including the way we worship Him.

Friends like you who stand with us enable us to proclaim this truth in word and in song. You are a part of God's work as you pray for and support us. To thank you for your gift this month, I'm asking the Ligonier team to send you two copies of the new album Glory to the Holy One for your gift of any amount to our ministry outreach.

Your support makes it possible to teach God's Word through music and through outreaches such as Tabletalk magazine, Renewing Your Mind radio, Reformation Bible College, The Reformation Study Bible, and many more. Will you help us teach the truths of the Lord that transform hearts and minds?
