2017 Regional Conference in Wichita: Highlights

4 Min Read

This weekend in Wichita, Kansas, hundreds of Christians joined us for a regional conference, "Stand Firm." Together, we explored the themes and lessons from 1 Peter. This was a refreshing time of edification as we looked to the biblical text for guidance and encouragement.

All of the messages from this weekend will be available to stream for free on Ligonier.org later next week. While you wait for that announcement, here is a brief summary and several highlights from the weekend. You can also browse #ligcon on Instagram and Twitter, or watch the questions and answers session we streamed on Facebook Live. Summary and Highlights

Friday evening began with Stephen Nichols’ message, "A Time for Confidence." He demonstrated that our confidence must not be in culture, government, or anything else except in God and in His sure and eternal Word.

Derek Thomas concluded our evening by turning to 1 Peter 1. He reminded us who we are in Christ and encouraged us toward faith, obedience, and patience.

Saturday morning started with Derek Thomas turning to 1 Peter 2 to help us understand what it means for the church to be "sojourners and exiles."

Later, W. Robert Godfrey examined how we can defend the faith in a relativistic culture. Arguing from 1 Peter 3, he demonstrated that Christianity is defensible and that we must always be prepared to give an answer for the hope that is us.

Our teachers then answered questions from those in attendance. W. Robert Godfrey, Stephen Nichols, and Derek Thomas discussed the Psalms, baptism, God's sovereignty and evil, worship, homosexuality, and many other topics. You can watch this session on Facebook Live.

After lunch, Stephen Nichols presented The Word Made Flesh: The Ligonier Statement on Christology and later explained from 1 Peter 4 what it means to endure hardship and trials in the Christian life.

W. Robert Godfrey closed our Wichita conference with a study of 1 Peter 5. He explained how the "eternal glory in Christ" not only provides the basis for eternal life but also the foundation for perseverance and godliness in life and ministry.
