2016 West Coast Conference Preview: Nathan W. Bingham and Tim Challies

3 Min Read

Our 2016 West Coast Conference will be centered on the theme of “The Gospel.” In addition to the main conference, we are offering a pre-conference titled, "Digital Disciples”. I will be joined by Tim Challies as we address how the explosion of digital technology in today's culture presents both opportunities and challenges that are unprecedented in history. Here’s a preview:

Nathan W. BinghamNathan W. Bingham is senior manager of communications for Ligonier Ministries and a graduate of Presbyterian Theological College in Melbourne, Australia. He has extensive experience in web development, social media consulting, and content strategy, and he blogs regularly at NWBingham.com.

Vanity in a Digital World

One of the benefits of social media is that it provides endless avenues to explore the world and connect with people. But it can also foster unbridled vanity. In this session, Nathan W. Bingham will discuss the value of social media and the problem of narcissism.

Speech in a Digital World

The use of the tongue is one of the most widely discussed, and most relevant, topics in the Bible. One of the ironies of the Internet is that the more people communicate with one another online, the less connected they often become. In this session, Nathan W. Bingham will consider how the Bible's teaching on speech governs all forms of communication.

Tim ChalliesTim Challies is founder and author of the popular Christian blog Challies.com. Tim is a pastor at Grace Fellowship Church in Toronto, Ontario, and co-founder of Cruciform Press. He is the author of The Discipline of Spiritual Discernment, Sexual Detox: A Guide for Guys Who Are Sick of PornThe Next Story: Life and Faith After the Digital Explosion, and Visual Theology.

Productivity in a Digital World

The rise of new technology is changing the way we gather, process, and distribute information. These developments are also altering the way we think about productivity. In this session, Tim Challies will explain ways technology can be used effectively to get things done for the good of others and the glory of God.

Purity in a Digital World

The proliferation of digital technology combined with culture's increasing acceptance of sexual deviancy has created unparalleled obstacles for Christians wanting to maintain sexual purity. In this session, Tim Challies will give practical and biblical instruction for battling and overcoming sexual sin.

While you're waiting for June, you can watch Tim’s message from this year's National Conference in Orlando in which he addresses how Christians should think about the value and danger of living in the digital age.
