2016 National Conference Preview: Steven Lawson and Stephen Nichols
Dr. Steven J. Lawson is president and founder of OnePassion Ministries. He is director of the doctor of ministry program at The Master’s Seminary, professor-in-residence for Truth Remains, and a visiting professor in the doctor of ministry program at the Ligonier Academy of Biblical and Theological Studies. Dr. Lawson’s many books include The Daring Mission of William Tyndale, Pillars of Grace, and John Knox: Fearless Faith.
Our 2016 National Conference will be centered on the theme of “The Gospel.” In addition to a questions and answers session, here’s a preview of what Dr. Steven Lawson will specifically address:
Beginning with Moses: Christ in All the Scriptures
The Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. Although it consists of a collection of sixty-six writings by multiple authors spanning hundreds of years, it is one book with one message of salvation. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reveals how God saves sinners through His one and only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. In this session, Dr. Steven Lawson will expound upon how the promise of redemption given throughout the Old Testament is fulfilled in Christ.
No Hope without It: The Life of Christ
God requires us to be holy as He is holy. As sinners, we deserve to be eternally punished for breaking God’s law. To satisfy our guilt before God, we need a substitute not only to die for our sins but also to fulfill the righteous requirements of the law on our behalf. We need a mediator to succeed where Adam failed in keeping God’s commands. In this session, Dr. Steven Lawson will detail the significance of the active obedience of Christ in His role as the second Adam and explain why there is “no hope without it.”
While you’re waiting for February, you can look back in the archives and find all of Dr. Lawson’s conference messages here. For example, here’s a message from this year’s Regional Conference in the San Francisco Bay area in which Dr. Lawson described how Christians, in a world of vanity, are called to seek and proclaim the truth.
Dr. Stephen J. Nichols is president of Reformation Bible College and chief academic officer for Ligonier Ministries. Formerly research professor of Christianity and culture at Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Pa., he is also a lecturer in church history at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, and a teaching fellow for Ligonier Ministries. He is author of many books, including Heaven on Earth: Capturing Jonathan Edwards’s Vision of Living in Between, The Reformation, and Bonhoeffer on the Christian Life. Dr. Nichols is host of the weekly podcast 5 Minutes in Church History.
Here’s a preview of what Dr. Stephen Nichols will specifically address at our 2016 National Conference:
Why the God-Man: The Mystery of the Incarnation
Jesus is the eternal Word of God in human flesh. In the opening of John’s gospel, we learn that the Son of God became something He was not—a man. At the same time, He remained what He always was—the second person of the Trinity. As the God-Man, Jesus is one person with complete yet distinct divine and human natures. The biblical account of the incarnation raises one of the most important questions ever to be asked: Why the God-Man? In this session, Dr. Stephen Nichols will unpack the central role of the incarnation for understanding the person and work of Christ.
Don’t forget you can look back in the archives and find all of Dr. Nichols’ conference messages here. For example, here’s a message from this year’s Fall Conference at Reformation Bible College in which Dr. Nichols considered why we need a Savior who can atone for our sin in order to restore our relationship with God.
