Announcing our 2016 and 2017 Reformation Study Tours and Cruises

3 Min Read

Ligonier Ministries is pleased to announce our tours for 2016 and 2017. With Dr. R.C. Sproul's guidance, we will be visiting both familiar and unfamiliar places as we set out on these learning trips. The tours will take us throughout Europe to visit many of the key places associated with the Reformation. As we journey, we will deepen our knowledge of God through reflecting on both the history of theology and the history of the church.

2016 Reformation Study Tour and Cruise

We will do two tours in summer 2016, and you're welcome to join us for just one or both legs of this trip. The first is a pre-cruise tour, Walking in the Footsteps of John Calvin (July 8–13). On this tour, we'll take a six-day historical tour focusing on the life and ministry of John Calvin in Switzerland, and we'll visit the cities of Geneva, Lucerne, and Zurich. We'll walk in Calvin's footsteps and consider the history of the Swiss Reformation. Key points of interest include: St. Pierre Cathedral, John Calvin's home and study, the Reformation Wall, Mt. Pilatus with its fantastic views of the Swiss landscape, and an exploration of Zurich that will highlight the life and work of the Reformer Ulrich Zwingli.

The second tour is the Rhine River Study Cruise (July 13–20). On this tour, we'll travel down the breathtaking Rhine River. Along the way, we'll visit Strasbourg, Heidelberg, Worms, and other key sites as we trace important events of the Reformation. Key points of interest include: Strasbourg Cathedral, Heidelberg Castle and Heidelberg University, the Luther Monument and Bishops Palace, Wartburg Castle, the Gutenberg Museum, the cities of Coblenz and Cologne, and the canal cruise of Amsterdam.

2017 Reformation Study Tour and Cruise

In summer 2017, we will commemorate the five-hundredth anniversary of Martin Luther's posting of the Ninety-Five Theses at Wittenberg. We are offering three unique travel and educational opportunities to coincide with this monumental anniversary year. You can join us for one, two, or all three of these tours.

The first is a pre-cruise tour, John Hus and the Forerunners of the Reformation (July 27–30). For this tour, we'll take a three-day journey through Prague and learn about John Hus and other forerunners of the Reformation who spent their lives ministering throughout Prague. Key sights include St. Nicholas Cathedral and Prague Castle.

The second leg of this tour, the Elbe River Study Cruise (July 30-August 7), is a magnificent eight-day Elbe River cruise featuring destinations in Dresden, Meissen, Torgau, Wittenberg, Dessau, and Madgeburg. During our travels, we'll consider the teachings and impact of the German Reformation. Points of interest include: St. Stephen's Cathedral, Dresden Castle, Zwinger Palace, the Luther House and Reformation Museum, and the Castle Church.

The third is a post-cruise tour, Walking in the Footsteps of Martin Luther (August 6–10). This tour will focus on the life of Luther in Eisleben, Erfurt, and Eisenach, Germany. We'll visit the following: the birthplace of Luther, St. Andrew's Church, and Wartburg Castle.
