2014 National Conference — Day 1

3 Min Read

Today, thousands gathered in Orlando for our 2014 National Conference, Overcoming the World: Being a Christian in a Post-Christian Culture. There are several ways you can connect with the conference, but to receive updates and join the conversation please follow the official conference hashtag #lmnc on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Google+. Below is a summary and several highlights from today.

Today's Sessions

To the World, Folly & a Stumbling Block from Steven Lawson

Steven Lawson began our 2014 National Conference boldy reminding us that the cross never has, and never will, make sense to unregenerate man apart from the power of God—a cross without offense in the world is a cross without power in the world.

Out of this World from Albert Mohler

In the second message of the day, Albert Mohler considered Jesus' prayer in John 17 and explained the tension that the church is in the world, but not of the world. The only biblical option for the church is to engage the culture of the world with the confidence and knowledge that our Lord and Master has overcome the world for us.

Questions and Answers with Sinclair Ferguson, Robert Godfrey, Steven Lawson, Albert Mohler, and R.C. Sproul.

Today's questions ranged from addressing how we should speak with those who have embraced a homosexual lifestyle, to the use of images of Jesus and recent movies featuring biblical themes.

This Is My Father's World from Sinclair Ferguson

Sinclair Ferguson brought today to a close by reminding us that God created this world to display His glory. As Christians we are not to withdraw from the world, but eagerly embrace our existence in it as we imitate our Father through the work He has given us to do. We must not forget that it is God, as Father, who has created the world.
