Dealing with Death and Disease
from Robert Rothwell Mar 30, 2020 Category: Articles
“I see a spot we need to keep an eye on.” Cancer. It wasn’t a diagnosis that I ever expected to hear as a young man about to start a family. Immediately, my mind filled with questions: How will I tell my wife? How will she manage if I die? What will the treatment cost? Am I ready to die? Keep Reading

Is It True That God Blesses Those Who Bless Israel and Curses Those Who Curse Israel?
from Robert Rothwell Feb 05, 2020 Category: Articles
One of the first promises in the Bible is given to Abram, whom God appointed to be a blessing to the whole earth. Not only did God tell this patriarch that he would receive a good land and have many children, but He also promised Abram, “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse” (Gen. 12:1–3). That’s an incredible promise, isn’t it? God will favor those who favor Abram and set Himself against those who oppose Abram. Keep Reading

A Review of Luther: The Life and Legacy of the German Reformer
from Robert Rothwell Jun 28, 2017 Category: Articles
In 2017, we celebrate the five-hundreth anniversary of the Protestant Reformation and the work of its most significant figure, Martin Luther. We date the beginning of the Reformation from his posting of the Ninety-Five Theses in 1517, but Luther’s significance extends well beyond Protestantism. He routinely appears on lists of the most influential figures of the past one thousand years. One of my undergraduate history professors observed that more books have been written about Martin Luther than have been written about any other historical figure other than Jesus Christ. Given Luther’s influence on religion, politics, culture, and the arts, it is extremely difficult to summarize effectively the life and significance of Luther in roughly ninety minutes. Yet that is what Stephen McCaskell has accomplished in his Luther: The Life and Legacy of the German Reformer. Keep Reading -

Top Ten R.C. Sproul Lectures
from Robert Rothwell Sep 07, 2012 Category: Articles
One of the great joys of writing the daily studies for Tabletalk and performing various other editorial tasks is that I must regularly listen to the teaching series that Ligonier Ministries has produced. Recently, I was asked to list what I believe to be the top ten lectures from R.C. While others might disagree with what follows at certain points, this list represents what I have found to be the most important and useful messages that R.C. has ever delivered. Keep Reading

2011 Academy Conference - Session 6 - R.C. Sproul
from Robert Rothwell Jan 23, 2011 Category: Events
Dr. R.C. Sproul concluded our 2011 Ligonier Academy Conference with his message “Post Tenebras Lux.” What does this phrase mean and why is it important? Dr. Sproul explains thusly: Introduction I have appreciated the speakers that went before me today, and I particularly enjoyed Dr. Trueman’s emphasis on the doctrine of justification. Luther called it the doctrine upon which the church stands or falls. Calvin said it is the hinge on which everything turns. Keep Reading
