2016 National Conference Preview: W. Robert Godfrey and Michael Reeves

4 Min Read

W. Robert GodfreyDr. W. Robert Godfrey is president and professor of church history at Westminster Seminary California. He is a visiting professor in the Doctor of Ministry program at the Ligonier Academy of Biblical and Theological Studies. His many books include God's Pattern for Creation, Reformation Sketches, and An Unexpected Journey.

Our 2016 National Conference will be centered on the theme of "The Gospel." In addition to two questions and answers sessions, and a panel discussion, here's a preview of what Dr. W. Robert Godfrey will specifically address:

Pre-Conference: God's Design for Creation

One of the tragic effects of the fall is that men and women seek to serve the creature rather than the Creator. In this session, Dr. W. Robert Godfrey will reflect upon current cultural challenges to a biblical worldview in light of God's design for creation.

Taken up into Heaven: The Ascension of Christ

The ascension of Christ marks the pinnacle of His earthly ministry, yet it is one of the most underappreciated aspects of His work. Jesus said it would be to our advantage for Him to return to His heavenly Father. From His exalted position at the right hand of the Father, Christ poured out the Holy Spirit upon His people. In this session, Dr. W. Robert Godfrey will explain the ascension of Christ in connection with the work of the Holy Spirit and the ministry of the local church.

While you're waiting for February, you can look back in the archives and find all of Dr. Godfrey's conference messages here. For example, here's a message from this year’s Regional Conference in the San Francisco Bay area in which Dr. Godfrey described how Christians should view death, where our hope should lie, and what Christ's death and resurrection mean for our own death and ultimate end.

Michael ReevesDr. Michael Reeves is senior lecturer and director of Union, an online theological resource site, at Wales Evangelical School of Theology (WEST). He is author of several books, including The Unquenchable Flame, The Breeze of the Centuries, Christ Our Life: Introducing the Person and Work of Christ, and Delighting in the Trinity, The Good God: Enjoying Father, Son and Spirit, and the Ligonier teaching series The English Reformation and the Puritans.

In addition to a questions and answers session, here's a preview of what Dr. Michael Reeves will specifically address at our 2016 National Conference:

He Is Not Here: The Resurrection of Christ

Without the resurrection of Christ, our hope of eternal life is vanquished. Since we know that Christ has risen from the dead, we have reason for faith and motivation for ministry. The resurrection testifies to the victory of Christ on the cross and the power of the gospel over sin and death. In this session, Dr. Michael Reeves will describe how the resurrection of Christ provides the basis for our faith and gives hope for new life.

All Things New: The Return of Christ

The gospel reminds us that we are pilgrims traveling from this world to that which is to come. Jesus promised His disciples that He would one day return to bring them to a place that He prepared for them. It is a place where all things are made new, free of sin and sorrow. As Christians, we seek not fame or fortune but a heavenly city whose builder and maker is God. In this session, Dr. Michael Reeves will provide an overview of the future hope we have as Christians when Christ returns to establish the new heaven and new earth.
