In 1999 Ligonier Ministries published Does Prayer Change Things?, a short book by R.C. Sproul that incorporated a previous work, Effective Prayer. Though small in size, this book is densely packed with biblical wisdom on both the theology and the practice of prayer. Dr. Sproul writes, "To be without prayer is to be without God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the hope and reality of heaven." He reminds the Christian of the immense importance of prayer in the life of the Christian and then teaches the Christian how he can honor God and grow ever-closer to Him through prayer.
In the coming weeks we are going to reproduce the contents of the book on this blog. We trust this will be an encouragement and a blessing to you.
Here is an outline of the book's contents:
- Chapter 1 - The Place of Prayer
- Chapter 2 - The Purpose of Prayer
- Chapter 3 - The Pattern of Prayer
- Chapter 4 - The Practice of Prayer
- Chapter 5 - The Prohibitions of Prayer
- Chapter 6 - The Power of Prayer
