God’s prophetic word to Israel is a word for us this day: “I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten” (Joel 2:25). Even if we feel like we have fallen too far for the Lord’s mercy to reach us, let us understand that God never ignores true contrition and that He will often bless us with even more than forgiveness if we turn from our sin back to Him. May we never be hesitant to repent when we have been convicted of our transgressions.
We are always to be humble servants of the Lord, coming before Him in prayer boldly (Heb. 10:19–22) not on account of what we have done but knowing that such access has been to granted to us in Christ alone. He looks with favor only upon those who are contrite and humble (Isa. 66:2), and if we are not humble before Him, we cannot rightly expect Him to hear or answer our prayers. Let us all cultivate humility in His presence.
