• Lively and Gracious Speech Devotional

    Colossians 4:6

Jesus’ teaching in parables is an excellent illustration of the kind of speech that Paul talks about in today’s passage. His words were memorable, exciting, and attracted many to follow Him. At the same time, there was no hint that He pandered to the crowds, for many people were also turned off by His teaching. In preaching the gospel and living out its implications, we must do our best to follow His example in these things. View Resource

  • Jesus Provides a Shekel Devotional

    Matthew 17:24–27

In Paul’s day there were some who were weak in the faith and would eat only vegetables because meat was often sacrificed to idols. These weaker brothers were not to denigrate the meat-eaters. At the same time, the stronger brothers who ate meat were advised to refrain in the presence of those whose consciences would be offended (Rom. 14). Clearly, we must live in a way that does not cause undue offense to other Christians. Does your life reflect this principle? View Resource

  • The Weak and the Strong Devotional

    Romans 14:1–6

Pressuring a weak believer to do something he perceives as wrong is the wrong way to help the weak become stronger. The right way is to teach the principles of biblical religion, and address the specific issues in an atmosphere of teaching.
