Throughout the history of the church, the Psalter has occupied a central place in Christian theology and piety. This session will introduce the book of Psalms and its centrality in the life of the believer. It will stress the importance of the Psalms and address topics such as their use in Christian history, the major themes of the Psalter, and the Psalter as the songbook for the King of kings.

God is our light and our salvation, and because of who God is, we have no reason to fear.  Psalm 27 is a psalm of confidence in teh faithfulness and mercy of God, and it has been loved by Christians for generations.  This session will consider Psalm 27, its historical significance, and its application to Christians today.  

In the book of Psalms, we find frequent references to the kingdom of God and to the king of this kingdom. This teaching forms a critical backdrop for teaching on the exaltation of Israel in the Prophets and Jesus’ preaching of the kingdom of God. This session will address what the Psalms have to say about the kingdom of God and its king.

Amber Cove in Puerto Plata is the Dominican Republic’s newest cruise port, but its history dates back to the 1490s. First discovered by Christopher Columbus, Puerto Plata was the site of one of the first forts in the Americas. At the opening to the fourth book of the Psalms stands a great prayer from a great man of God. Psalm 90 is a prayer of Moses, and it describes the permanence of God, the temporality of man, and the relationship of God to His people. This session will consider Psalm 90 and its abiding significance in our day.

Built in the 1600s to protect the town of San Juan, the massive Fort San Felipe del Morro took on British, Dutch, and American naval attacks.  When you tour this World Heritage Site, you will get a glimpse into Puerto Rico’s history. You will walk the cobblestone streets of Old San Juan and experience Caribbean art, music, and culture in the heart of the capital.

Though only thirty-two square miles in size, St. Thomas offers no shortage of activities. In the city of Charlotte Amalie, visit historic sites such as Blackbeard’s Castle or ride the seven-hundred-foot skylift for an unparalleled view of the Caribbean. This session will look at the various ways that the book of Psalms speaks of the believer’s relationship to God, exploring what the psalmists mean when they say they are righteous, how the psalmists confess sin, and the way in which the psalmists model trust in God’s promises for us.
