Welcoming Dr. R. Albert Mohler Jr. and Dr. Derek W.H. Thomas as Our Newest Teaching Fellows
Dr. R.C. Sproul founded Ligonier Ministries in 1971 as a teaching fellowship designed to flood the culture with knowledgeable and articulate Christians. Since then, Ligonier has steadfastly served growing Christian disciples with trusted teaching through broadcasting, publishing, and unique educational outreaches both in North America and around the world.
In 2010, we announced that Dr. Sproul had identified specific teachers to help Ligonier Ministries remain true to its founding purpose: to proclaim, teach, and defend the holiness of God in all its fullness to as many people as possible. God has blessed our efforts and the Ligonier teaching fellows have provided counsel and willing service during a season of unprecedented ministry growth. That growth shows no signs of slowing, and we are pleased to welcome two new teaching fellows, Drs. R. Albert Mohler Jr. and Derek W.H. Thomas.
Together, Drs. Mohler and Thomas bring more than sixty years of ministry experience in the local church and ministerial training. Dr. Mohler leads with thoughtful conviction, presenting a faithful evangelical witness in the current cultural upheaval in which Christians now live. Dr. Thomas preaches, teaches, and writes with biblical-theological precision in a way that connects and equips Christians to grow in their love for Jesus Christ and His church. These are men of integrity with unique gifts, called by the church and set apart for gospel ministry. We submit to the wisdom of Scripture when it comes to the task of finding suitable successors for ensuring Ligonier’s biblical and theological fidelity for years to come (2 Tim. 2:2).
Dr. R. Albert Mohler Jr.
Dr. R. Albert Mohler Jr. is president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., where he also serves as the Joseph Emerson Brown Professor of Christian Theology. His many books include Words from the Fire, The Conviction to Lead, Culture Shift, and Atheism Remix. In October, he released We Cannot Be Silent. He also is a frequent contributor to Tabletalk magazine. Dr. Mohler is host of the popular podcast The Briefing, a daily analysis of news and events from a Christian perspective, and Thinking in Public. He is also a member of the Council for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood and a council member of the Gospel Coalition. Dr. Derek W.H. Thomas
Dr. Derek W.H. Thomas is senior minister of the historic First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, S.C. Originally from Wales, he has served as a pastor for many years, including pastoring for seventeen years in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He is Robert Strong Professor of Systematic and Pastoral Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary in Atlanta. He has written numerous books, including Praying the Saviour's Way, Calvin's Teaching on Job, and How the Gospel Brings Us All the Way Home. He is also a frequent contributor to Tabletalk magazine. His most recent book is a collaboration with Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson: Ichthus: Jesus Christ, God's Son, the Savior. He and his wife, Rosemary, have two children and two grandchildren. The guidance and support of our teaching fellows strengthens our ministry and allows us to continue to launch initiatives like this year's thorough revision of the Reformation Study Bible. They also regularly contribute to Tabletalk magazine, Renewing Your Mind radio, RefNet, Ligonier Connect, conferences and tours, Reformation Bible College, and the D.Min. program at Ligonier Academy. We are grateful to our newest Ligonier teaching fellows for their willingness to serve the church through Ligonier's outreach, and are praying that the Lord would sustain and strengthen them as they take on these new responsibilities.
