2018 West Coast Conference: Day 2

from Jun 09, 2018 Category: Events

Today we concluded our 2018 West Coast Conference in Seattle. Over two days, we considered the challenge of atheism, the truthfulness of God’s Word, and the example of Christ in apologetics. Our speakers included W. Robert Godfrey, Steven Lawson, Stephen Nichols, Burk Parsons, Derek Thomas, and Ravi Zacharias.

Look back on the conversation by following #ligcon on Twitter and Instagram. You can also go back and watch sessions you may have missed on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. We will make an announcement on the blog later next week when all of the messages become available to stream for free on Ligonier.org and in the Ligonier app.

See below for a summary from today:

2018 West Coast Conference

God’s Unchanging Word from Steven Lawson

Steven Lawson began day two by reminding us of the role of preaching in apologetics. He explained that the Holy Spirit can use apologetics to break down barriers to the gospel, but people are finally converted to Christ only through the power of God’s Word.

Questions and Answers with W. Robert Godfrey, Stephen Nichols, and Ravi Zacharias

Our first questions and answers session covered topics such as joy, apologetics in a secular society, yoga, good works, the moral law, and more.

You can watch these sessions below.

Origin, Meaning, Morality, Destiny from Ravi Zacharias

Ravi Zacharias then considered our identity as creatures made in God’s image. He explained from Psalm 74 that our identity as image-bearers is the only thing that can give our lives meaning and serve as a basis for ethical living.

Questions and Answers with W. Robert Godfrey, Steven Lawson, Stephen Nichols, and Derek Thomas

We returned after lunch for a time of questions and answers, covering topics such as doubt, pastoral calling, revelation, types of apologetics, God’s love, and more.

The Word Became Flesh from W. Robert Godfrey

W. Robert Godfrey continued by discussing what the incarnation of the Son of God means for apologetics. He also spoke on how to defend the reality of the incarnation against attacks from non-Christians.

The Power of God from Derek Thomas

Derek Thomas closed our West Coast Conference by calling us to proclaim the gospel clearly and boldly. He reminded us of the power of the gospel and why we should not be ashamed.
