Since 1994, Renewing Your Mind with Dr. R.C. Sproul has provided accessible, in-depth Bible teaching to millions around the world. As the principal outreach of Ligonier Ministries, this radio broadcast has instructed listeners in the life-changing truths of historic Christianity and has kept the church community informed about pertinent issues facing believers today.
After serving as a study center and resource for Christian education for many years, the leadership at Ligonier Ministries felt the call to increase its outreach to both the wider church and culture at large. Since radio represented the most cost-effective and efficient means for distributing Christian teaching to the widest audience, Ligonier experimented early on with a call-in question-and-answer program entitled Ask R.C. The positive response to Dr. Sproul’s teaching style encouraged Ligonier Ministries to expand the outreach and thus, Renewing Your Mind, a half-hour teaching program, was born.
Starting with only fourteen radio outlets in the United States in 1994, Renewing Your Mind was soon available on over three hundred stations across the country. Listeners were drawn to Dr. Sproul’s engaging presentation of complex material and tuned in to learn about topics not always covered on other Christian broadcasts. In addition to solid, expositional Bible teaching, Renewing Your Mind set itself apart from other programs through Dr. Sproul’s willingness to examine systematic theology, philosophy, apologetics, ethics, church history, and many other subjects too often neglected today. The program continues to bridge the gap between Sunday school and seminary, equipping the laity with the tools they need to defend their faith and grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Renewing Your Mind began its international outreach via shortwave radio into South America in 2000 and then into India and other Asian countries in 2003. Foreign language broadcasting started in 2003 with the translation of the program into Farsi for distribution in Iran. The Spanish version of the program, Renovando tu Mente, began in 2005. Ligonier intends to continue to translate the audio transcripts for over 150 different teaching series. The main series of nearly 60 different segments are Dust to Glory: An Overview of the Bible and Foundations: An Overview of Systematic Theology. Both of these series are at the core of the current German and Spanish language projects.
Though these new ventures continue, rising costs and a temporary downturn in giving in 2005 forced the ministry to cancel airtime on nearly sixty stations across the United States. Renewing Your Mind is a listener-supported broadcast and depends on the support of faithful ministry partners for its availability around the world.
