Josiah Shute was born in Gigglesworth, Yorkshire. He received the B. A.
and M. A. degrees from Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1611 he became
rector of St. Mary Woolnoth, Lombard Street, in London. He remained there
for nearly 33 years.
In 1643, Shute was appointed by Parliament to the Westminster Assembly
of Divines, but died in June before their first meeting. He was
replaced by Simeon Ashe.
