George Buchanan was born in Scotland in 1506. He attended St. Andrew's College, and became quickly known as a historian and scholar. The king asked him to write a pamphlet against Romanism, and Buchanan attacked that system at its most vulnerable point for that day: the morals of the clergy. He was instrumental in ushering in the Reformation in England and Scotland due to his writings. His writings after this period were mainly about government, but he was a significant factor in the Reformation. |
