William Bates was educated at Emmanuel and King's College, Cambridge, where he received a B. A. in 1647 and a D. D. (doctor of divinity) in 1660. A presbyterian, he pastored at St. Dunstan's in the West in London, one of the wealthiest churches in the city.
His works have been reprinted in 4 volumes by Sprinkle Publications. His works on The Fear of God and Spiritual Perfection were and are highly regarded. His treatment of suffering is very valuable, entitled The Great Duty of Resignation to the Divine Will in Affliction. |
