Dear Student,
A new year is upon us, and every time we start a calendar year, I deeply contemplate what we hope to accomplish in the coming months. 2006 was a wonderful year of ministry, one in which I personally experienced a strong sense of gratification, as the Lord saw fit to expand the outreach of Ligonier Ministries well beyond the borders of the United States.
As much as I enjoy the ongoing outreach we have in America through radio, television, conferencing, and supplying churches, pastors, and lay people with educational materials, the greatest excitement I have at this point in the life of our ministry is in what’s happening in the far reaches of the world. Your faithful support throughout the years has helped to build a strong foundation of ministry within the United States, and enables us to continue to expand across the globe.
Ligonier’s relationships with other ministries has helped us to expand deeply into the continent of Africa. We are now in over 12 countries there, providing educational materials for Christian leadership in those emerging nations. I’m also excited about what’s going on in the Ukraine and in Russia with the use of Ligonier materials. Latin America continues to be a crucial area for significant outreach as more and more of our materials are being translated and broadcast into Latin American countries.
Perhaps the highlight of the last few weeks of 2006 for me was the news that Consequences of Ideas has been translated and published into Chinese by the University of Peking. It was Ravi Zacharias who alerted me to the openness of the new Chinese government to Christian literature as long as it reached a certain level of intellectual and academic respectability. It was the decision of the university there in Peking to translate my book, and we’re very much excited about this outreach we now have in that nation.
With your help, Ligonier continues to have an impact in the Mideast countries, Iran particularly, as well as with our military units around the world. We get letters almost daily from men aboard vessels in the United States Navy, as well as ground forces from Iraq, Afghanistan, and other parts of the globe, who are reading Tabletalk and using Ligonier material for their ongoing studies.
This year is a year of great opportunity, and we need your support to get a strong start. I’m asking you to pray and to think about how you can be a part of this worldwide mission to help root and ground the people of God in the truth of the Biblical faith. With your help we will continue to minister at home and abroad until the whole world hears the good news of the Gospel.
