The Unadjusted Gospel

This week at the Together for the Gospel conference in Louisville, Kent., thousands of pastors and church leaders are gathered to examine the unadjusted Gospel and why it is the heart of ministry. To correspond with this much-needed message, we will have several blog posts this week that take a careful look at the Gospel — what it really is, why it is so important, and some of the perils facing the evangelical church.

In 1999, over 125 Evangelical Christian leaders endorsed a statement affirming their common commitment to the central message of the Christian faith. Entitled “The Gospel of Jesus Christ: An Evangelical Celebration,” the document took more than year to formulate and includes affirmations and denials and the importance of having unity in the Gospel. Dr. Sproul explained, “We have vast differences among us in details of doctrine and worship and forms of church government, but our goal in this statement is to reaffirm the historic center of Evangelicalism. Nothing is more important than getting the Gospel itself right.”
