A Trusted Guide to the Great Doctrines of Christian Faith
from Tim Challies Jul 11, 2009 Category: Ligonier Resources
Our purpose is to help Christians know what they believe, why they believe it, how to live it, and how to share it. That is why we often recommend books and teaching resources that point you to the giants of the faith and their works -- like Augustine, Luther, Calvin, and Edwards. It almost goes without saying that not everything available in print or on the Internet is edifying. It can be difficult to know for sure which resources are theologically sound. So when we recommend a resource for your consideration, whether it's one of Dr. Sproul's teaching series or a book from another contemporary author, you can be confident that it was carefully selected. Our aim is to be a trusted guide to the great doctrines of the historic Christian faith. Keep Reading -

Escaping Anonymity
from Tim Challies Apr 22, 2009 Category: Articles
Admiral Lord Nelson once remarked that "every sailor is a bachelor when beyond Gibraltar." This was a statement about anonymity, a rare concept even just a few short generations ago. Nelson knew that once his sailors moved beyond the bounds of the British Empire, beyond society's systems of morality and accountability, they underwent a transformation. Every man became a bachelor and sought only and always his own pleasure. Those who have read biographies of John Newton will see there a vivid portrayal of a man who was a gentleman at home but who was vulgar and abusive while away. Given only a measure of anonymity he became a whole new man. Keep Reading -
Standards of Accountability
from Tim Challies Mar 22, 2009 Category: Articles
When the minister of the gospel faces the Lord God as judge, there will be many questions addressed to him. There will be many standards of accountability. There will be many criteria of judgment. But in the end, the most essential criterion of judgment for the minister of God is, "Did you preach the Word? Did you fully carry out the ministry of the Word? In season and out of season, was the priority of your ministry the preaching of the Word?" Keep Reading -
Ligonier National Conference - Robert Godfrey
from Tim Challies Mar 21, 2009 Category: Articles
The Ligonier Ministries National Conference is drawing to a close. We have come to the final day and began with a message from Dr. Robert Godfrey who preached on "The Holiness of God and the Cross." He began by saying that even as Christians we tend to have a trivial view of sin which turns sinners into naughty kids and God into an indulging grandfather. We like to sin, God likes to forgive, so what's the problem? Keep Reading -
Ligonier National Conference - Thabiti Anyabwile
from Tim Challies Mar 20, 2009 Category: Articles
Late this afternoon we heard from Thabiti Anyabwile on "Cosmic Treason: Sin & the Holiness of God." He began by joking that his name is Swahili and roughly translated means "suffering for Jesus in the Cayman Islands." And then he got down to business. He read Numbers 25 and divided his exposition of this chapter into four sections. He wanted to use this passage to make some observations about sin as cosmic treason. Keep Reading
