Preaching Christ
from R.C. Sproul Apr 07, 2011 Category: Tabletalk Magazine
The church of the twenty-first century faces many crises. One of the most serious is the crisis of preaching. Widely diverse philosophies of preaching vie for acceptance among contemporary clergy. Some see the sermon as a fireside chat; others, as a stimulus for psychological health; still others, as a commentary on contemporary politics. But some still view the exposition of sacred Scripture as a necessary ingredient to the office of preaching. In light of these views, it is always helpful to go to the New Testament to seek or glean the method and message found in the biblical record of apostolic preaching. Keep Reading -
The Place of God’s Disfavor
from R.C. Sproul Apr 03, 2011 Category: R.C. Sproul
In recent days, the evangelical church has been rocked by Rob Bell’s open questioning of the doctrine of hell. Dr. Sproul answers those questions in a forthcoming book, Unseen Realities: Heaven, Hell, Angels and Demons. In the following excerpt from the book, Dr. R. C. Sproul strongly affirms that hell is a biblical concept and a very real place. Unseen Realities, which is jointly published by Christian Focus Publications and Ligonier Ministries, will be released in the United Kingdom in May and in the United States in July.

The Inseparable Love of God
from R.C. Sproul Mar 09, 2011 Category: R.C. Sproul
The source of Christian comfort is not that we are for God or that we are on His side. Rather it is that God is for us and is on our side. To know that God is for us is to know that no one and nothing can ever prevail against us. Paul's question is clearly rhetorical: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" The answer is obvious: nobody.

Will Sin Go Unpunished?
from R.C. Sproul Mar 07, 2011 Category: R.C. Sproul
All things being equal, God does desire that no one should perish. But all things are not equal. Sin is real. Sin violates God’s holiness and righteousness. God also is not willing that sin should go unpunished. He desires as well that His holiness should be vindicated.... When the preceptive will is violated, things are no longer equal. Keep Reading -
Bread from Heaven
from R.C. Sproul Feb 16, 2011 Category: R.C. Sproul
Jesus teaches us to pray that God would give us daily bread. Obviously Jesus was not telling His disciples to pray only for bread. But bread was a staple in the diet of the Jews, and had been so for many years. Furthermore, bread was a powerful symbol of God’s provision for His people in the Old Testament.

Waiting in Faith
from R.C. Sproul Feb 13, 2011 Category: R.C. Sproul
When Abraham arrived in Canaan, it was by no means a great nation. But he dwelt there, living in tents. God may have prepared a mansion for him in heaven, but in Canaan all he had was a tent. The only parcel of Canaan he ever actually owned was his burial plot. Keep Reading -
Putting Faith into Action
from R.C. Sproul Jan 30, 2011 Category: R.C. Sproul
The author of Hebrews defines faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1). Faith fills the vacuum of hope. Hope, when coupled with faith, has substance, and substance is something rather than nothing. Keep Reading -

Priorities
from R.C. Sproul Jan 24, 2011 Category: R.C. Sproul
When I first became a Christian I was introduced to the priorities of the Christian community. I learned quickly that it was expected of me that I have a daily devotion time, a time reserved for Bible reading and prayer. I was expected to go to church. I was expected to have a kind of piety that was evident by not cursing, not drinking, not smoking, and the like. I had no idea that biblical righteousness went far beyond these things. Keep Reading
