The Problem of Pleasure (pt. 2)
from John Gerstner Aug 11, 2010 Category: Articles
Pain and suffering always raise a dilemma and philosophers have long responded to it by saying that the existence of pain must prove at least one of two things: either God is good but not all-powerful, or he is all-powerful but not good. Many of today's New Atheists will say that the existence of pain disproves God altogether. In this portion of The Problem of Pleasure Dr. John Gerstner says that pain is not a problem at all. "As long as there is sin, there can be no problem of pain. A good God, if He is omnipotent, would have to make the sinner suffer. A dilemma would exist only if there were no suffering in a sinful world." Keep Reading -
The Problem of Pleasure
from John Gerstner Aug 10, 2010 Category: Articles
"Just about everybody thinks there is a problem of pain. Even philosophers assume that the most formidable theoretical problem is that of suffering. You have thought it obvious not only that there is pain, but also that pain in a world created by a good God is indeed a problem. Since no one in this world escapes adversity altogether, no one doubts that there is pain in the world. Some of this pain is excruciating. In fact, some people face more distress than comfort. Apart from Christian Scientists, no one we know denies that pain hurts." Keep Reading -
