2010 West Coast Conference - Session 2 - John MacArthur
from Alex Chediak Mar 26, 2010 Category: Events
INTRODUCTION Dr. MacArthur began by noting that there are numerous best-selling books out there on "finding God" (The Secret, The Shack, etc.). The common story line is that we are sufficiently powerful to create reality. If we visualize our succeeding at whatever goal we set, it will happen. We are in charge of providence. We can rearrange the universe. In a vast religious ponzi scheme (that makes the ones at the top of the pile filthy rich), there are many participants. MacArthur listed a dozen names (Robert Schuler, Benny Hinn, Kenny Copeland, etc.) and movements which play on this theme -- Jesus is a force waiting to be activated -- by you, knowing what you want. 2010 West Coast Conference - Session 1 - Michael Horton
from Alex Chediak Mar 26, 2010 Category: Events
The title of Dr. Horton's message was The Church Cries "Uncle" ("Sam" That Is). Horton opened by noting that the Conference title was not the one the speakers would have wanted. It is unfortunate that a Confernce must be entitled "Christless Christianity." Many are concerned about the church in America today. Our own missionaries are often in need of evangelism themselves. Michael Horton, John MacArthur, Peter Jones, and R.C. 2010 West Coast Conference: Early Bird Rate Ends Friday

This Friday, January 29, is the last day to get the Early Bird Registration Rate of $89 for the 2010 West Coast Conference in Los Angeles, Calif. The term evangelical has no meaning without the evangel — the good news — and countless churches are preaching a message that has little if anything to do with the biblical gospel. Drs. Michael Horton, John MacArthur, Peter Jones, and R.C. Sproul will come together to examine many of the popular misunderstandings of the gospel in our day and seek to equip evangelicals to stand firm with the good news delivered once for all to the saints. Suffering and Sovereignty: Winter Conference at Ligonier Academy (Part II)
from Keith Mathison Jan 23, 2010 Category: Events
The afternoon sessions of the Ligonier Academy Winter Conference began with Dr. Derek Thomas’ lecture entitled “Take Up Your Cross.” Dr. Thomas reflected on Matthew 16:13ff., showing how cross-bearing and self-denial is the biblical pathway for Christians to follow. Dr. Thomas explained that chapter 16 is a turning point in Matthew’s gospel. Up to that point, Jesus had been speaking and preaching about the kingdom. Keep Reading -

from Chris Donato Jan 23, 2010 Category: Events
The 2010 Winter Conference on suffering and sovereignty of God marks Ligonier Academy’s first hosted conference. The Academy plans to repeat this event annually. It began Friday, January 22, with a Q&A session featuring Drs. R.C. Sproul and Derek W.H. Thomas. At one point, the question was asked: “What’s the biggest challenge or opportunity for the church today?” Both men responded with one mind: the gospel. Keep Reading -
Suffering and the Sovereignty of God: 2010 Winter Conference
from Karisa Schlehr Jan 15, 2010 Category: Events
Sometimes it seems that earlier generations of Christians had a higher view of God than we do. The reason for that may very well lie in the fact that they were much more familiar with pain, with suffering, with persecution, and with death than we are. Because of all they endured, they were forced to consider the hand of God in the midst of their difficulties. The bottom line is that God’s hand is in affliction. His sovereignty is manifest in the dark side of life. This is said so frequently in Scripture that it is amazing that it is so hard for us to get it. Keep Reading -
Making Sense of Suffering
from Karisa Schlehr Jan 08, 2010 Category: Events
You find yourself in trouble, and you go to the book of Job to get answers and help, right? And what do you get when you go to the book of Job? This is what you get: "You must learn to submit to Me." That’s what God says. "I love you. I love you with all my heart. There is no questioning of My love for you in Jesus Christ. My covenant promises are yea and amen in Jesus Christ. Having begun a good work, I will complete it unto the day of Jesus Christ, but I have never promised you that you will have life without pain. I have never promised you that you will never experience trial or suffering. I have never promised to you that terrible things won't happen to you or to your children. I’ve never done that." And you see, my friends, we say in the Lord’s Prayer, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” or "Make me a servant, Lord," or "Sanctify me, Lord." Do you understand that in order to bring that about this is what it may mean? Be careful what you pray for. Keep Reading -
