from R.C. Sproul Oct 25, 2009 Category: Articles

Martin Luther's teaching of "justification by faith alone" was a battle cry for the sufficiency of the merit of Christ and for the graciousness of redemption. His slogan sola fide ("by faith alone") was merely an extension of Augustine's earlier credo, sola gratia ("by grace alone"). Keep Reading
  • Avoiding a False Theology of Suffering

from R.C. Sproul Oct 24, 2009 Category: Articles

Martin Luther's tenure in the monastery was a time of spiritual desperation. He was tormented by unrelieved guilt coupled with a gripping fear of the wrath of God. Why would an educated man retreat to a barren cell and abuse himself with self-inflicted physical punishment? Why would a believer go out of his way to find personal suffering? Keep Reading

"Mankind is made to resemble God. What, then, does it mean to be made in the image of God?" --Ligon Duncan, "Created in God's Image," Ligonier Leadership Conference.  The question quoted above is that which Dr. Duncan sought to answer throughout his second discussion at the Ligonier leadership conference. His answer was full-orbed, challenging, and thought-provoking. Among the many great points, one in particular stood out: "We are to represent God's ownership and interests in His creation." How glorious--and yet so daunting. Keep Reading

from Marty Banzhaf Oct 14, 2009 Category: Articles

Ligonier media resources have a long history in their global outreach. It is a great joy for the ministry to be able to contribute hundreds of resources from obsolete inventory and find an inexpensive way of distribution. DVDs, CDs, and MP3s are the media formats of the twenty-first century, yet this technology does not extend worldwide. As globalization has provided new media technology, still old media equipment for VHS and audio cassettes exist en masse and are kept operational in both urban and rural areas of underdeveloped countries.  Keep Reading
