Learn to share the true Gospel of Jesus Christ

June 23, 2008 @ 8:00 AM  |  Posted By: Karisa Schlehr

What would happen if when we speak of the Gospel we get it wrong and as a result introduce people to the wrong Jesus?

Earlier this year, Ligonier Ministries held its 21st annual national conference, "Evangelism According to Jesus," here in Orlando, Fla. Joining R.C. Sproul were friends Sinclair Ferguson, Steven J. Lawson, John MacArthur, C.J. Mahaney, R.C. Sproul Jr., and Joni Eareckson Tada, all of whom reminded us of the great truths of the Gospel to help us evangelize more effectively.

In case you missed the conference, you can watch these sessions in our Media Center at Ligonier.org from June 23-July 10, 2008.

Here is a taste of what you will learn:

Steven J. Lawson:  "It is our responsibility to proclaim the Gospel, but God guarantees the success of His own Gospel. The Gospel will triumph in the hearts of people because God will sovereignly and powerfully call out a people to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ."

John MacArthur:  "As you grow in grace in the knowledge of Christ, as the Word does its work, as the Spirit does its work, and your sanctification increases and you are being changed by the Spirit of God into the image of Christ as you gaze at His glory, you will gain victory over sin. You will have increasing victory and decreasing iniquity. You will be better. However, you will feel worse because part of being better is hating sin more."

Joni Eareckson Tada:  "I shudder to think of the opportunities we lose because we let embarrassment dissuade us. Or we allow pressures to frustrate us. I shudder to think of the opportunities we lose because we fail to give our treasure or our time or our talent or we allow awkwardness to override our conscience or the Spirit's prompting."

C.J. Mahaney:  "How grateful are you for the forgiveness of sins? If you truly understand, appreciate, and apply the resurrection to your soul and life, you will be overwhelmed that you are no longer still in your sins, captive to sin, awaiting only condemnation, and eternal judgment for sin. We are forgiven of our sins and the effect of that should be individuals who are increasingly amazed by grace."

Sinclair Ferguson:  "Saving faith shuts my mouth and excludes boasting, but it leads me to boast in Christ. Saving faith focuses on Christ and not on sacraments, but is blessed by receiving the kiss of Jesus Christ in the sacraments. Saving faith is not dependent upon my obedience, but obedience is the hallmark of the man or woman filled with the Spirit."

R.C. Sproul:  "The only way anyone can ever be saved is by works. God requires that His law be fulfilled. And unless you possess perfect righteousness, you will never be justified. Now the issue is this: By whose works will you be justified? Justification by faith alone means that we're justified by the works of Christ alone."

R.C. Sproul Jr.:  "As we remember that belief is a supernatural gift from God and not some sort of intellectual attainment, then we can remember the single most important thing we can do for the evangelizing of our children is to pray for them."

DVD, CD, and MP3 CDs of the conference are available for purchase from our website.
