International Outreach by Timothy A. Dick
Over the years, Ligonier Ministries has been blessed with many
opportunities to provide biblical teaching resources for the church in
various countries and languages. Yet, at this moment in time, unlike
any other, we are perhaps on the horizon of a new reformation. We
believe that we are seeing a revival or "new awakening" to the biblical
doctrines of grace. And, as R.C. commented in a recent interview, "an
awakening will not become a reformation until new Christians grow to
maturity in their understanding of the faith." That is why Dr. Sproul
and the Board of Directors of Ligonier Ministries have founded an
international ministry division.
The growth and success of our international outreach is of vital
importance to the future impact and purpose of Ligonier Ministries. Our
primary objective in 2008 is to actively participate in the global
expansion of the church by providing sound, biblical teaching resources
for the discipleship and education of laypeople and church leaders. We
will accomplish this by replicating Ligonier Ministries' impact
throughout the world in as many countries and languages as God is
pleased to provide.
On October 15, 2007, my wife, Sherrie, and I traveled to Bogotá,
Columbia, a city of 10,000,000 people often referred to as the gateway
to Latin America. Our purpose was to establish an international office
that will be the hub for our ministry to the Spanish-speaking world. At
the heart of this trip was the celebration of 490 years of church
reformation for the church in Colombia. We met with pastors from 27
cities during a series of conferences we helped sponsor. The messages
were all based on the five solas of the Reformation. The Gospel of
grace touched countless hearts, and the zeal and passion of these
pastors for the unvarnished Word of God was overwhelming.
In collaboration with the ministry Gospel Through Colombia and Miami
International Seminary, Ligonier Ministries will begin to produce
more teaching resources in Spanish. This may possibly include a Spanish
edition of a magazine similar to Tabletalk
for use in the seminary, for evangelism, and for the edification of the
Christian community in Latin America. Radio teaching ministries are
also being coordinated to broadcast Dr. Sproul's Renewing Your Mind in Spanish.
As we look to the future with expectant hearts, it is our hope that God
will be honored throughout the world through the international outreach
of Ligonier Ministries.
Soli Deo Gloria.
