A variety of options for all types of students

Ligonier Academy's Certificate Program is a non-degree distance education curriculum designed for laypeople, ministers, and educators who desire a structured way to study biblical and theological subjects at their own pace, at their own level of interest, and in their own home. Ligonier Academy offers three levels of study in the Certificate Program: Ligonier ConnectIntermediate, and Advanced.

Please compare the certificate options below and review the specific requirements for your preferred course of study to help you decide what best fits your needs. When you have decided which level and course is right for you, please call 800-435-4343 to register or request additional information.

After registering, you may begin work on the course as soon as you have the necessary course materials. Please look at the syllabus for your course to find the required course materials and the required assignments. The required lectures and books listed on each syllabus may be purchased through Ligonier Ministries at the time of registration.

Ligonier Connect

Featuring the teaching of Dr. R.C. Sproul, Ligonier Connect is an interactive learning environment specifically designed to guide students through deep and awesome truths of Scripture. Ligonier Connect is for students who desire to study online at their own pace, interact with other believers, and grow in their knowledge of such areas as: worldview and culture, biblical studies, theology, Christian living, and more. Ligonier Connect courses are also excellent small group curriculum for churches and Bible study groups. This is a great place to start learning.

Time Investment:

  • Individuals set their own pace, but you can expect 1-4 months
  • Group courses allow the group leader to determine the schedule
  • Typically 12-15 lessons per course with video lectures
  • Answering questions and interacting with classmates
Faculty Involvement:
  • Questions, answers and interaction moderated by a Ligonier Academy’s dean of distance learning
Tuition:
  • Individual registration is $57 per course
  • Group registration is $24 per student per course (required minimum is five students)
  • A tuition discount is available for homeschool students

Intermediate Certificates

For students who desire deeper exploration of topics, the Intermediate Certificate offers a more rigorous directed reading approach with access to a tutor. Tutors will guide both group and individual discussions through online forums and will evaluate the students' work.

Prerequisites:

  • Some prior formal study of topic
  • Some basic knowledge of topic
  • Willing and able to do moderate reading and writing
Reading Level:
  • Approximately equivalent to college level reading requirements
Time Investment:

  • 9−12 months
  • Read 1−2 books per month
  • Write 500-word essay per month
Faculty Involvement:
  • Feedback on assignments
  • Online discussion of questions arising from reading
Tuition:
  • $350
  • A tuition discount of 40% is available to additional members of the same household

Advanced Certificates

This level is designed for students who seek extensive knowledge and deep exploration in a topic. The student will be assigned a tutor who will be able to answer the student’s questions and evaluate the coursework.

  • Significant knowledge of topic
  • Willing and able to do heavy reading and write a research paper
Reading Level:
  • Approximately equivalent to graduate school/seminary level reading requirements
Time Investment:

  • 2−3 years
  • 90 books (approx. 3 books per month)
  • Write a 500-word essay per month
  • Write 4,000−5,000 word research paper
Faculty Involvement:
  • Feedback on assignments
  • Online discussion of questions arising from reading
  • Evaluate research papers
